Welcome to Edwardes College Peshawar

Welcome to the website!  If you are exploring the possibility of studying at Edwardes, we hope the website will intensify your interest and that you will be in touch with us directly.  If you are an old Edwardian, we hope that what you find here will stir fond memories and prompt you to recruit students for your college.

Founded in 1900 by the Church Missionary Society, Edwardes was the first institution of higher education in what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, and it was the natural outgrowth of Edwardes School, which was  founded in 1855.  The College remains a Christian foundation, being an institution of the Diocese of Peshawar, Church of Pakistan.  Both a Christian chapel and a Muslim mosque are located on the campus.

Principal's Desk

  • Dear College Community, As you return to College in the new year 2012, you will find that a number of important appointments have been made.  Prof. Kalim Ullah is the new First Vice Principal, bringing his deep dedication to Edwardes to this important position.  You well know his energy, humor and ability to work with people both within and outside the College.  During the free-association game held during the Hostel Christmas Dinner, Prof. Kalim was asked to say the first phrase that came into his mind when he heard "Edwardes College," and his telling response was, "my life"!  We look forward to his continued guidance in the life of the College.  Read more Prof. Kalim succeeds Prof. Naseem Haider in the position, and it is with sadness that we bid this dear colleague farewell in that position, for he has rendered long and outstanding service to Edwardes.  A gathering will be held
  • Dear Friends, As College closes for the Christmas holiday I greet you with thanksgiving for a successful first half of the 2011-12 session and with good wishes for a restful time during the 11-day break.  Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, who is important to Muslims as a prophet and central to Christians as the messiah, the Christ.  At this year’s seasonal Hostel Dinner, which my wife Jane and I were able to attend via videoconference, it was clear that the Christmas message of a visitation from God and its fruit of generosity, joy and peace are understood across all religious persuasions.  One of the great blessings of Edwardes College is that we are able to celebrate one another’s religious festivals despite a societal environment of polarization and extremism. • Having arrived at Edwardes in May 2011, I have now completed six months of service as Principal.  This work is a great privilege, and it has been a joy to address the many opportunities and challenges of leadership in this special and important institution.  I am very grateful for the assistance that many of you have offered by way of counsel, participation and organization.  This seems a good time to report to the community of faculty, governors, students, friends and supporters about what has been accomplished and where we are headed.  You will see in the left-side menu array on the website home page the button “Principal’s Report 2011,” which will open “Principal’s Report to the Edwardes College Community.”  I hope you will find the report helpful, and I will welcome all comments and reflections in response to it.  – Dr. Titus Presler, Principal, 9 November 2011
  • Dear College Community, Greetings on the occasion of Eid ul-Azha.  My understanding of this Muslim observance is that it commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to Allah, before Allah intervened to provide him with a sheep to sacrifice instead. May your prayers and spiritual reflections during this time be blessed by Allah. Read more...

  • A gathering with students last Thursday at Edwardes College featured an especially interesting question posed by a student: “As you come in as the new principal of Edwardes College, what is your thinking about the environment here in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where you are working?”  I launched into the three topics that immediately came to mind: Islam, women, and militancy in this frontier area.  What follows is not a verbatim of what I said extemporaneously but my recollection of the gist: Read more...
